Geographically Undesirable

I used to think I was geographically desirable, not that I really contemplated it much - But I figured I live in an amazing tourist destination with a dramatic jagged coastline, the smell of bacon wafting on every corner, renowned wineries and gorgeous vista views - so what’s not to love. Additionally, as soon as I moved here friends and family alike seemed to come out of the woodwork to visit, thus reconfirming my geo-desi thesis.
But what I came to realize after living here off and on for awhile, was that this beautiful village-by-the-sea for most, was a weigh station of sorts; a place for cover and healing, a fresh start, and for a few, the romantic allure of an artists’ colony. And when talent couldn’t trade, and spouses realized that Eucalyptus trees and couples’ walks by the ocean couldn’t fix a world of hurt, and the artist colony was eclipsed by the devolution brought about by airport art and over-priced real estate I began to rethink my thesis.
My dear friend says “This place is a like a beautiful woman who has nothing to say.” Well, I think it’s because she’s emotionally shut down. She’s been silenced by the sound of greedy cash registers and complaints of frigid weather, and not enough Charcuterie. I think she’s a tramp because she’s been trampled upon by the mini-migraters and dishonorable agendas. I believe if you get close enough to her you might find she has quite a bit to say, that’s if you haven’t already left her for the other side and greener grass.
